Apprentices seats to rise to 23 lakh after passage of Bill

The passage of a legislation on apprentices will create an additional 23 lakh seats, Labour and Employment Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said today and asked states to ensure its proper implementation. “I am happy that the amendment to Apprentices Act has been done in Lok Sabha. Under the earlier system, the total number of apprentice seats in the country was 4.98 lakhs. Out of that, only 2 lakhs could be utilized. “But now after opening up of the Act and once it is passed in Rajya Sabha, the number of apprentices seats will go up to 23 lakhs,” Tomar said while addressing the national consultation on Industry Career Centre ITI collaboration here.
