The number of people working in the country's public sector enterprises declined in 2012-13, according to a government survey. CPSEs employed 14.04 lakh people (including contractual workers) in 2012-13 compared to 14.5 lakh in 2011-12, showing a reduction of 3.28 per cent in total employee strength.

Moreover, hit by economic slowdown, the number of profit- making central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) in the country declined in 2012-13 even as loss-making PSUs rose during the same period.
