Lucent merger may cause layoffs

Lucent’s merger with Nokia Alcatel is likely to lead to layoffs in the company’s India unit. Most of these layoffs will be in the marketing and sales and R&D. Most of these layoffs will be an outcome of overlaps as a result of the merger. The company has approximately 100 sales people in India and about 2500 R&D professionals.
