Meta's layoff plans: Pink slips on the way for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp employees

Following CEO Mark Zuckerberg's announcement in March that Meta would cut 10,000 more jobs in the coming months, in addition to the 11,000 cuts made in November, the layoffs have now been confirmed.

Meta, the parent company of social media giant Facebook, has announced plans to initiate another round of layoffs. This comes on the heels of previous job cuts when the company said that it would reduce its workforce by about 10,000 employees.

According to sources within the company, Meta is set to carry out another significant round of layoffs this Wednesday, as reported by Vox.

As per an internal memo shared on a Meta employee message board and reviewed by Vox, the company has informed its employees about the impending layoffs that will commence on Wednesday. The memo revealed that the layoff will affect technical teams working on various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Reality Labs, and WhatsApp.

Although a Meta spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the memo, they declined to provide any further comments. One source estimated that as many as 4,000 jobs could be affected by the layoffs.

“This will be a difficult time as we say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have contributed so much to Meta,” Lori Goler, Meta’s head of people, said in the memo.

According to Goler's note, Meta employees in North America will receive email notifications between 4 am to 5 am PT on Wednesday. The timelines for employees outside of North America will vary by country, and some countries will not be affected.

Meta is also requesting North American employees, who are able to do so, to work from home on Wednesday to provide them with "time and space" to process the news.

Meta's latest layoffs follow CEO Mark Zuckerberg's announcement in March that the company would cut an additional 10,000 jobs in the coming months after already having cut 11,000 jobs in November. Zuckerberg had mentioned that the April cuts would impact technical departments, while a May round of cuts would affect the company's business side.

As of the end of last year, Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, had approximately 86,000 employees.
