Weekly Round-up (Apr 07-11): News you cannot miss

As the week began with Toyota lock-out news taking rounds again, a little respite came soon as the worker’s union withdrew the hunger strike after one of the employees was hospitalized due to degrading health. The most remarkable news this week owing the elections in the country, was the growing numbers in job creation. HR experts in the country are placing high hopes on the possibility of a stable government leading to creation of over two million new jobs and a boost in hiring activities by 30-40 per cent.

As the week began with Toyota lock-out news taking rounds again, a little respite came soon as the worker’s union withdrew the hunger strike after one of the employees was hospitalized due to degrading health. The most remarkable news this week owing the elections in the country, was the growing numbers in job creation. HR experts in the country are placing high hopes on the possibility of a stable government leading to creation of over two million new jobs and a boost in hiring activities by 30-40 per cent.

The multinational asset management firm Blackrock announced a major reshuffle in their top management. Indian low-cost airline GoAir also announced a top level rejig as two senior officials left while the CEO Giorgio Di Roni was retained. Talking of airlines, news came from Air India pilots threatening to strike in resentment to a proposal for cutting allowances by 15 percent. On the other hand, companies in India are now innovating on their appraisal processes making them more transparent, engaging and agile.

This week was also marked by a lot of significant appointments and movements from the corporate world. One of the iPhone founders Greg Christie is going to take retirement and leave this year. Gajendra Chandel has been appointed as the CHRO, Group HR Head by Tata Motors replacing Prabir Jha. Chennai based TVS logistics also appointed E. Balaji as President – People Services (HR). Viber, the instant messaging and voice application firm appointed Mark hardy as the CMO. India Infoline, an asset management company announced Prashasta Seth as its CEO. Bharti Airtel roped in ex Yahoo executive Anand Chandrasekaran as their Chief Product Officer. Last but not the least, Ravi Chauhan was appointed as the Managing Director for SAP India.
