Monster Employment Index India rises 9% year-over-year

Some 17 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the Monster Employment Index registered expansion in online recruitment activity between September 2011 and September 2012. Shipping/marine (up 54 percent) exhibited the highest annual growth among sectors while garments/ textiles/leather, gems & jewellery (up 32 percent) sectors maintained an upward trend in online recruitment activity in this period. Government/ PSU/ defence (down 23 percent) showed steepest annual decline.

According to Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com (India/ Middle- East/ South East Asia), "The recent developments in the Monster Employment Index India reflect a relatively encouraging trend driven by growth in major sectors like IT, retail, healthcare, engineering and construction." He further added that, “growth rate continues to remain in the single-digits indicating a continued cautious sentiment."
