Shipping, marine sectors show highest recruitment activity

Around 16 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the Monster Employment Index registered expansion in recruitment activity between May 2011 and May 2012. Shipping/marine, up 12 percent continued to exhibit the highest annual growth among sectors while garments/ textiles/ leather, gems & jewellery (up 11 percent), healthcare, biotechnology & life sciences, pharmaceuticals (up 11 percent), maintained an upward trend in online recruitment activity. In contrast, government/PSU/defence (down 18 percent) showed steepest annual decline. Overall, the Monster Employment Index India rose 3% year-over-year.

Online demand improved in six of 13 occupational groups monitored by the Monster Employment Index between May 2011 and May 2012. Online recruitment activity was up in the year for seven of the 13 locations monitored by the index.
