The adrenalin-powered frenzy in the placement cell at the Powai campus of IIT-Bombay matches that of any trading room in a stock broking firm. A 146-member team - mostly students - are industriously working dozens of phone lines reaching out to 5,000 companies to place 1,600 students graduating this year. The students have organised themselves efficiently into six placement managers, 50 company coordinators and 50 department placement coordinators. The company coordinators call employers and convince them to come to campus for placement season, department placement coordinators prepare students for aptitude tests, group discussions and interviews and another 10 associate placement coordinators also help out the different groups.
