Every year, thousands of unskilled workers from different parts of India flock to developed parts of the globe in search of jobs and a prosperous life. In fact, the volume of the illegal Indian immigrants in developed countries goes to show that human trafficking has become an informal industry in India. On their part, the authorities in India have often chosen to ignore the hue and cry raised by developed countries over the influx of unskilled labor which they claim to be distorting the local labor market. However, the government was quick to react when certain foreign companies demanded that government allow the import of unskilled or semi-skilled workers to India. On Wednesday, the Union Home Minister of India clarified that the government would not encourage the flow of unskilled workers to India from countries like China. He said that since India itself had a vast pool of cheap unskilled labor, companies need not import them from other countries.
