US based life insurance firm, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) has announced plans to double its workforce at its Global Capability Center (GCC) in Hyderabad. The firm currently has an employee base of about 450, and hopes to double up the number to 1,000 with ambitious hiring plans amid the pandemic.

"We are currently a workforce of approximately 450 associates and leadership areas across a number of organizational functions. With an aim to further expand hiring for multiple roles across the technology landscape, we are targeting to reach more than 1,000 employees by the end of this year," said Ravi Tangirala, Head of the GCC India, in a press release.

According to reports, to accommodate the increasing employee number, the center expanded to another floor in the same location- Vamsiram's BSR IT SEZ Park, creating a total workspace of 150,000 square feet, said the announcement.

While the hiring numbers bring hope to job seekers in the region, it’s interesting to note the company’s expansion plans in terms of  physical space, given several organizations today are deciding to let go of office space to encourage and enable remote work or work from satellite offices.

Individual functions and organizational goals sure play a critical role in making hybrid functioning a reality, however, how leaders approach this decision-making will guide the capabilities of the workforce and the organization to fasttrack recovery and move forward towards a sustainable future.
