Since 31 December, after S. Hajara stepped down as chairman and managing director, SCI has been running without a full-time chief. Its director (finance) B.K. Mandal is currently officiating as chairman and managing director.

Sunil Thapar, director (bulk carriers and tankers), was selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on 31 August last year for the top job, but he is yet to get a final clearance from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
