Appraisals can be less painful

Making performance appraisals a pleasant experience requires a deep understanding of its purpose and meaning. As opposed to focusing only on ratings scales, it is recommended that both managers and the appraisee view the process as a stock of his or her contributions. Experts recommend that an excessive focus on ratings leads to unpleasant arguments and hurts the relationship between a manager and direct report.
