JSW Steel appoints Sandeep Batra as President CHRO–Steel Corporate

JSW Steel has named Sandeep Batra as President CHRO–Steel Corporate, effective 18 November 2025, adding a veteran HR leader to its senior management team. The appointment, approved by the board, reflects the steelmaker’s push to deepen its people strategy as the industry undergoes rapid change.

Batra joins JSW Steel with more than three decades of experience across infrastructure, digital services and industrial businesses. He most recently served as chief people officer at Adani Airport Holdings and Adani Digital Labs, overseeing HR operations across eight airports and multiple joint ventures.

Over 31 years, Batra has held leadership roles that span talent strategy, organisational transformation and workforce planning. At Adani, he managed a workforce of about 15,000 employees, including contract staff, and led people operations across infrastructure and digital verticals. His cross-sector background, industry analysts say, positions him to support JSW Steel’s expanding operational footprint.

JSW Steel said the appointment signals a continued focus on strengthening organisational capabilities, particularly as the steel sector faces shifting demand cycles, technology transitions and rising pressure to secure skilled talent.

The company noted that Batra’s experience in large-scale HR transformation would be key to aligning workforce strategy with the business’s future growth plans. JSW Steel, one of India’s largest producers, has been investing in capacity expansion and digital integration across its plants — areas that require sustained investment in skills and leadership development.

Industry observers point out that steelmakers are increasingly bringing in HR leaders with diversified experience to help navigate workforce volatility, sharpen productivity and build long-term capability in a tight labour market.
