India’s job market cools in July, but tech hiring stays hot: Indeed Report

India’s formal job market saw a 5.8% dip in job postings in July 2025, marking a cyclical cooling after two months of growth. Year-on-year, postings declined by 14.9%, yet remain 70% above pre-pandemic levels, signaling long-term resilience in formal employment.

Tech roles defy the downturn
According to Callam Pickering, APAC Senior Economist at Indeed, “Tech hiring remains the heartbeat of India’s job market.” Software development and data analytics continue to anchor formal hiring, with one in five job postings focused on software roles. In the last three months:
Data & Analytics postings surged 15.4%
Logistics Support rose 14.3%
Therapy and Dental roles grew over 13%
Software Development remained steady with a 9.2% increase
Meanwhile, sectors like medical information (-12.3%), pharmacy (-10.7%), and education (-8.0%) saw notable declines, underscoring a shift toward high-skilled, tech-driven hiring.
Pay transparency slips, but jobseekers want more
A surprising trend in July was the decline in pay transparency. Only 45% of job postings included salary details—down from over 50% earlier this year. Yet, sectors like childcare (88%) and dental (88%) lead in transparency, while tech roles lag behind: Software Development: 18.3% IT Systems & Solutions: 18.2% Data & Analytics: 9.4% Experts say that while tech salaries are often competitive, lack of transparency may hinder faster hiring in a talent-short market. Skill mismatches persist despite worker availability India’s workforce is abundant, but skill mismatches remain a challenge. Employers are increasingly seeking highly skilled professionals in tech and management, while many job seekers lack the specialized training required. This gap continues to fuel demand for upskilling programs, certifications, and industry-academia partnerships to bridge the divide.
