India’s largest IT services firm revamps its Bring Your Buddy scheme to speed up hiring of experienced digital talent.

Tata Consultancy Services has increased its employee referral incentive to ₹40,000 as it steps up efforts to hire mid-level technology professionals, amid rising competition for specialised digital skills.

India’s largest IT services company has relaunched its internal referral programme, Bring Your Buddy (BYB), with enhanced payouts aimed at accelerating recruitment for experienced candidates.

Under the revised structure, employees can earn ₹40,000 if a referred candidate joins within 30 days of accepting an offer. The payout falls to ₹30,000 if the candidate joins within 31–45 days, ₹20,000 for 46–60 days, and ₹15,000 if onboarding takes place within 61–90 days.

The tiered model directly links reward to speed of joining, a move designed to reduce offer drop-offs and shorten hiring cycles.

The programme is focused on mid-level professionals with four to 15 years of experience, particularly in grades C1 through C5. TCS is targeting skills in high-demand areas such as Salesforce, Oracle and ServiceNow, which are central to digital transformation projects.

The development was first reported by Mohul Ghosh.

TCS is seeking to tap into the professional networks of its existing workforce to identify candidates who are both technically qualified and culturally aligned. Referral-based hiring is widely viewed as more cost-effective and reliable than external sourcing, especially for niche skills.

The move comes as India’s IT sector continues to compete aggressively for experienced digital talent. Large technology services firms have increasingly relied on targeted incentives and accelerated recruitment strategies to secure specialist capabilities.

TCS added more than 85,000 associates in calendar year 2025, reflecting a strong hiring push. The company is now focusing on improving offer acceptance rates and reducing recruitment cycle times.

By tying higher referral payouts to quicker onboarding, TCS is signalling a shift towards speed-driven hiring without diluting skill requirements.

The success of the revamped scheme will depend on whether it can consistently deliver ready-to-deploy talent in critical technology areas. As demand for cloud, enterprise and platform expertise remains elevated, referral-led recruitment may become an increasingly central pillar of TCS’s talent strategy.
