Wipro hiring delay affects 200+ graduates, NITES demands answers from company

IT employees’ union seeks Labour Ministry intervention after alleging prolonged onboarding delays for more than 200 candidates selected under Wipro’s Elite Hiring 2025 programme.
IT services major Wipro is facing questions over the onboarding status of more than 200 students and young engineers after the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) approached the Ministry of Labour and Employment, seeking intervention. The incident is being described as a prolonged delay in joining candidates selected through the company’s Elite Hiring 2025 programme.
According to news agency PTI, NITES submitted a complaint to the ministry on August 13, highlighting concerns over the uncertainty faced by candidates who completed multiple recruitment and verification stages but have yet to receive confirmed joining dates.
The employee body said the delay has left affected candidates dealing with financial, professional and psychological challenges while waiting for clarity from the company.
Union seeks government intervention
In a letter addressed to Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, NITES requested the ministry to engage with Wipro and seek details on the status of all affected candidates.
The union urged the ministry to obtain:
- A clear status update on all selected candidates
- Reasons behind the onboarding delay
- Confirmation on the validity of offer letters and Letters of Intent (LOIs)
- A definite and time-bound onboarding schedule
NITES also said candidates who may no longer be under consideration should receive a formal written communication instead of being left in uncertainty.
According to PTI, the union described the onboarding delay as “prolonged and unexplained” and called for urgent intervention from the ministry.
Candidates completed multiple recruitment stages
NITES stated that the affected students participated in Wipro’s campus recruitment process in February 2025 and successfully cleared the required technical and voice assessments.
The union outlined the hiring timeline as follows:
- Candidates cleared interviews during the recruitment process
- Offer letters were issued in July 2025
- Letters of Intent were issued in August 2025
- Candidates reconfirmed their interest in December 2025
- Candidates completed and cleared the Codility technical assessment in March 2026
- Background verification was completed on March 26, 2026
According to NITES, candidates complied with every requirement communicated by the company throughout the hiring process.
Despite this, the union said they have not received confirmed onboarding dates.
Repeated follow-ups yielded no clarity, says NITES
The employee body said affected candidates have spent months contacting Wipro’s HR teams, onboarding helpdesks and other designated communication channels in search of updates.
However, NITES claimed these efforts have not resulted in substantive responses regarding joining schedules.
In its communication to the ministry, the union maintained that organisations are entitled to make workforce decisions, but candidates who have completed recruitment stages, accepted offers and fulfilled verification requirements should receive clear communication on their status.
The complaint adds to a series of concerns raised by NITES in recent years on employment practices and workforce-related issues in India’s technology sector.
Awaiting Wipro’s response
According to PTI, an email sent to Wipro seeking comment on the matter did not receive a response at the time of publication.
The case now places the focus on whether the Labour Ministry will seek clarification from the company and whether affected candidates will receive a definitive timeline on their employment status.
As the waiting period extends, the outcome could become a closely watched issue for campus recruits entering India’s technology workforce amid a still-evolving hiring environment.
