A former employee alleged mistreatment during an exit process in Noida. TCS rejected the claims, calling them “inaccurate and a misrepresentation of facts.”

Tata Consultancy Services has denied online allegations that members of its Human Resources team mistreated a former employee at its Noida office, stating that the claims are “inaccurate and a misrepresentation of facts.”

The company’s response came after a post on Reddit, which described an incident involving an ex-employee who said he was terminated on 19 September and later faced difficulties when seeking clarity on severance pay and exit procedures. The post, which included claims of being physically restrained, drew wide attention on social media.

Allegations in online post

According to the Reddit account, the individual said he had contacted HR repeatedly without receiving a reply. He claimed his access was revoked by mid-morning on the day of his termination. Later in the afternoon, he visited the company’s Yamuna office in Noida, seeking answers on the grounds for termination, severance provisions and return of company assets.

The individual alleged that his concerns were dismissed, and that during a subsequent visit with his phone camera switched on, HR staff attempted to seize the device and physically restrained him. He wrote that he later approached a local police station to submit a complaint and video evidence.

The post concluded with the individual asking the Reddit community for advice on possible legal escalation.

The account quickly sparked debate among social media users, with many discussing workplace practices in the IT industry and suggesting potential legal remedies. Commenters expressed concern over the alleged incident and advised the individual to seek formal recourse.

The discussion reflects wider unease about employment practices in India’s IT sector, particularly around termination processes, performance management and severance pay.

Company response

In a statement issued to People Matters, TCS said: “The allegations made here are inaccurate and a misrepresentation of facts.” The company did not provide additional details at the time of publication.

TCS, part of the Tata Group, employs more than 600,000 people worldwide and is regarded as one of India’s most prestigious IT services companies. The firm has consistently ranked among leading employers in India’s technology sector.

The Indian IT industry, which has been adjusting to slower demand and global economic uncertainty, has also faced heightened scrutiny of workplace policies. Reports have noted that technology firms are under pressure to manage costs while maintaining employee trust and morale.

While the specific claims about the Noida incident remain disputed, the episode highlights the growing visibility of workplace grievances on social media. Allegations that once would have been handled privately are now broadcast to wider audiences, adding reputational stakes for both employees and employers.

For companies like TCS, which are navigating large-scale workforces and rapid changes in client demand, maintaining transparency in employee relations remains an area of close watch.
