Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Nashik, and Raipur top LinkedIn’s inaugural Cities on the Rise 2025 list, spotlighting India’s fastest-growing non-metro career hubs. Other cities making the list include Rajkot, Agra, Madurai, Vadodara, and Jodhpur, showcasing how professional opportunity is accelerating beyond traditional metro areas.
According to LinkedIn, job market momentum and economic opportunities are increasing in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, especially across technology, healthcare, and financial services sectors. Companies are actively hiring for engineering and business development roles in these emerging markets.
With over four in five Indian professionals looking to switch jobs this year, the Cities on the Rise report highlights new avenues for career growth—whether through relocation, tapping into new industries, or finding opportunities closer to home.
Tier-2 & Tier-3 Cities: The New Talent Magnets
Tech companies such as Miracle Software Systems (Visakhapatnam), HCLTech (Vijayawada, Madurai), Infosys (Vijayawada), Datamatics (Nashik), and Bull IT Services (Madurai) are driving tech job creation. In healthcare and pharma, companies like Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Laurus Labs, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, and Sun Pharma are hiring in Visakhapatnam and Vadodara. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are accelerating growth in financial services in cities like Raipur, Agra, and Jodhpur.
Business Development & Engineering Lead the Hiring Wave
Business development roles are the top hiring drivers in six out of the ten emerging cities, including Nashik, Raipur, Rajkot, Agra, Vadodara, and Jodhpur. Engineering roles dominate in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Madurai. Other high-demand functions include sales, operations, and education.
Government Push Fuels Local Growth
Smart city initiatives and infrastructure investments are further accelerating the rise of these emerging hubs. Ranchi, for example, is benefitting from targeted smart city projects, while road and transport improvements in Rajkot are boosting its business environment. In Raipur, the Chhattisgarh government’s ‘Naya Raipur’ vision is helping attract both private and public investment.
A Shift in India’s Career Landscape
Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn Career Expert and India Senior Managing Editor, says, "Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are at the heart of India’s economic transformation. The influx of GCC investments, the local MSME boom, and the government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat are collectively turning smaller cities into serious career hubs. This means, for many Indians, meaningful career progress no longer demands moving to a big city. These 10 rising cities offer real opportunities across industries, functions, and roles—right where they are."
