Avanade appoints Achal Kataria as India CEO

Avanade India has appointed Achal Kataria as Managing Director and CEO, effective immediately, as the Microsoft specialist looks to accelerate growth in one of its key markets.

Kataria joins Avanade with more than three decades of experience across technology services, enterprise transformation, global operations and commercial leadership. He previously led Cognizant’s India business, where he focused on growth, strategic client relationships and market expansion.

Kataria brings extensive technology experience

Before Cognizant, Kataria held senior leadership roles at EXL, Tech Mahindra, Genpact and Hughes Software Systems. His experience spans banking, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing, telecommunications and life sciences.

At Avanade, he will oversee the company’s business strategy and operations in India, with a focus on expanding its market presence and helping clients turn digital and AI investments into measurable business outcomes.

New CEO to focus on business transformation

Kataria said Avanade was well positioned to help Indian organisations make greater use of AI and cloud technology.

“Having worked closely with organizations across India for many years, I've seen firsthand the ambition and pace at which businesses are embracing transformation,” said Achal Kataria, Managing Director and CEO, Avanade, India.

“Avanade has built a strong foundation in the market and is uniquely positioned to help clients translate AI and cloud investments into real business impact. I'm excited to join the team and help shape the next phase of growth in India while creating meaningful outcomes for our clients, partners and employees,” he added.

Avanade targets AI and cloud growth

Bhavya Kapoor, President, APAC and Global SMEC & Catalyst Solutions, said Kataria’s experience would support the company’s next phase of growth.

“India is a strategic growth market for Avanade, and Achal’s appointment is an important next step in building our business in the country,” said Bhavya Kapoor, President, APAC and Global SMEC & Catalyst Solutions.

“Achal brings the combination of leadership experience, customer understanding and operational expertise needed to scale our business and deepen our impact with clients. His appointment reflects our commitment to investing in local leadership and building a business that delivers lasting value for organizations across India,” she further commented.

The appointment comes as Indian businesses increase investment in cloud technologies and artificial intelligence. Avanade said it is strengthening its presence in the country as organisations move from AI experimentation towards enterprise-wide transformation.
