JioStar names Purnima Kumar EVP, HR and Total Rewards

Purnima Kumar has been appointed Executive Vice President, Human Resources (Digital, Sports) and Total Rewards at JioStar, taking on an expanded mandate that spans people strategy for the company’s digital platforms and sports ecosystem while continuing to oversee compensation, benefits and total rewards.

In her new role, Kumar will lead JioStar’s people transformation agenda across high-growth digital and sports businesses, with a focus on building future-ready capabilities, scaling talent frameworks and strengthening rewards practices to support business expansion. The appointment underscores JioStar’s emphasis on aligning people strategy with growth across India’s largest streaming and sports portfolio.

Kumar has been serving as the HR leader for JioStar’s digital and sports businesses, where she has worked closely with business leaders to integrate workforce strategy with transformation and scale. Her elevation reflects the company’s confidence in her ability to extend talent, capability and rewards frameworks across its media and sports operations.

Prior to this appointment, Kumar was Head – Total Rewards, People Programs, Talent Acquisition, and Co-Lead, JV Integration at JioStar. In that role, she led enterprise-wide rewards strategy and people programmes, oversaw talent acquisition and played a central role in joint venture integration, helping establish organisational foundations for the company’s next phase of growth.

Before joining JioStar, Kumar spent over four years at The Walt Disney Company, where she served as Executive Director, Talent Acquisition and People Strategy and Programs for the India network, including Star, Disney+ Hotstar and Disney. Her remit covered people strategy and workforce programmes across a complex, content-led media environment.

Earlier in her career, Kumar spent more than 16 years at Accenture, progressing through senior global and regional HR leadership roles. Her experience there included positions such as Global Recruiting Operations Director, Global HR Transformation – Recruiting Delivery Director, Global Head of Strategic Sourcing and Candidate Experience, and Head of Human Resources for multiple geographies and enabling functions, giving her deep exposure to large-scale talent strategy and HR transformation.

Kumar holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi and an MBA in Human Resources Management from XLRI Jamshedpur.

JioStar operates across television, streaming and sports, combining content and technology to reach a large audience base. The company said the expanded HR leadership role is expected to support its ongoing growth as competition intensifies across digital media and sports broadcasting.
