The corporate affairs minister, Sachin Pilot, has made a proposal to expand the portfolio of company secretaries to equip them with a bigger say in corporate governance. The Government would move amendments to rename company secretaries to governance professionals. The move comes at a time when the Centre is looking to sharpen supervision of compliance procedures by corporates through the proposed National Financial Regulatory Authority.
