Ola to help 500,000 women get sustainable livelihoods by 2025
As a part of the Ola Foundation, the popular ride-hailing platform intends to bring about a sustainable livelihood for 500,000 women by 2025. The Foundation will offer employment building skills such as skills training, financial literacy and life-skills education.
The goal is to make more and more women socially empowered and enable them to enhance their employability in the digital age. To that end, the foundation has conducted training in textile production and printing, financial and digital literacy programs, health awareness and vocational skills.
“The vision is to provide women access to resources and opportunities to create and bring about sustainable change in their lives, their families and in turn the community at large,” said Srinivas Chunduru, Group CHRO, Ola, and Mentor, Ola Foundation.
Financial and social independence for women can translate into a significant improvement in the well-being of their families, he added. Having partnered with an NSDC Certified vocational training partner, 2Coms, the foundation is able to impart the training that is essential to make a person an employable and desirable candidate.
The need to make women financially literate is high and it is crucial to break them from the chains of excessive debt, especially in India. According to a report by the Clinton Global Initiative, households where the women were educated had a higher focus on children’s education. Moreover, more than 90 percent of a woman’s income is spent on children and the family.
