Wipro eyes external candidates for next CEO

A committee of Wipro's board of directors are conducting an extensive search for the next CEO post Abidali Neemuchwala's resignation announcement late last month.

After Abidali Neemuchwala announced his exit in late January, Wipro is looking to replace the incumbent CEO and the search is on. 

According to media reports, a few external candidates such as Bhaskar Ghosh, CEO, Accenture; Ritesh Idnani of Tech Mahindra, Ravi Kumar S of Infosys, and Nitin Rakesh of Mphasis, among others. 

The group chief executive of Accenture Technology Services, Bhaskar Ghosh, has recently been named advisor to Julie Sweet, the organization’s new CEO, starting March 2020. The company is thus undergoing a process of organizational restructuring. 

The other candidate, Ritesh Idnani, who has also worked with Infosys previously is now the TechM president and is in-charge of its business process management business. 

Ravi Kumar S, who is the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and President at Infosys, and Nitin Rakesh, CEO, Mphasis are also in the running for the top role at Wipro. 

Other potential internal candidates include Rajan Kohli, who is leading Wipro’s digital and consulting division and Milan Rao, who heads the company’s core transformation office-marketing, innovation, and technology. 

Neemuchwala cited family commitments as the reason behind his resignation and thus the board of directors have begun the process of searching for the next CEO. 

Wipro has highlighted that it will conduct an in-depth and vast search to identify their next CEO. A process that involves governance, nomination, and compensation committee of Wipro’s directors will assess external candidates in an extensive manner. 

As the IT sector undergoes major changes in a rapidly transforming digital world, leaders of tech giants like Wipro are going to play an instrumental in steering this sector towards higher growth.
