DIGIVOLVE and the Future of Work: JSW’s Blueprint for the growth of the workforce

As digital transformation, automation, and Industry 5.0 accelerate change across industries, businesses must evolve to remain competitive. The key to success lies in a workforce that is not only skilled in digital tools but also agile, adaptable, and committed to lifelong learning.

Recognising this urgent need, JSW introduced DIGIVOLVE —a forward-thinking learning initiative designed to enhance digital literacy and analytical skills across its workforce. According to Ajanta Chatterjee, Group Head of Talent, Learning & Development, DEI,  JSW Group, the key tenets of DIGIVOLVE focus on digitalisation and analytics to enhance employees' skills and prepare them for industry advancements. This initiative directly supports JSW’s expansion strategy and aligns with the organisation’s innovation efforts.

However, implementing and scaling a learning initiative of such size and that too across a large, diverse workforce requires more than just vision—it demands an innovative approach to learning engagement. That is where Skillsoft became a key enabler for the programme.

As part of the Skill Shift Series—a collection of transformative case studies curated by Skillsoft and People Matters—we explore how JSW successfully leveraged Skillsoft’s expertise to drive workforce development, enhance employee engagement, and build critical, strong and smart digital capabilities.

The genesis of DIGIVOLVE: A strategic learning vision

In an era defined by rapid technological evolution and business expansion, DIGIVOLVE emerged as a strategic enabler of workforce transformation at JSW.

“Recognising the growing need for digital literacy and analytical expertise, DIGIVOLVE was conceptualised as a dynamic initiative to bridge the gap between present competencies and future workforce demands.” said Ajanta Chatterjee, “With Industry 5.0 reshaping the manufacturing landscape, this program ensures that employees remain at the forefront of innovation, contributing effectively to JSW’s ambitious growth trajectory.”

At its core, DIGIVOLVE is a catalyst for capability-building, aligning employee skill development with JSW’s long-term vision. By integrating digitalisation and analytics into learning frameworks, Chatterjee shared that DIGIVOLVE fosters a culture of continuous improvement, empowering employees to harness the potential of emerging technologies.

“This strategic learning vision not only enhances operational efficiency but also reinforces JSW’s position as an industry leader,” Chatterjee added.

The programme’s emphasis on smart manufacturing and digital transformation underscored JSW’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve. By fostering a workforce adept in digital tools, analytics, and automation, the DIGIVOLVE seamlessly supported JSW’s expansion strategy, ensuring that employees are well-equipped to navigate and drive future industry advancements, cementing its role as a pivotal force in shaping the future of work within JSW, reinforcing a culture of innovation, agility, and strategic foresight.

Skillsoft and JSW: A transformative learning partnership

Chatterjee delved into how JSW has remained committed to fostering a future-ready workforce in an era where Industry 5.0, Skills 2030, and smart manufacturing are reshaping the industrial landscape. A key enabler for this journey was Skillsoft, a trusted learning partner for JSW that has played a pivotal role in shaping its capability-building strategy.

“With an agile approach to course curation, Skillsoft has empowered JSW employees with digital literacy, leadership development, and managerial capabilities, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving industry,” added Chatterjee.

Skillsoft’s vast and adaptable course offerings have facilitated JSW’s process of skill- advancement while seamlessly aligning with the growth ambitions. Their ability to deliver industry-specific technical courses, including sustainability, ESG, and AI-driven solutions, has been instrumental in preparing employees for the future of work.

“Now in its eighth year, this partnership has flourished due to Skillsoft’s commitment to continuous innovation. By consistently updating its course catalog to match market trends, Skillsoft has reinforced its value as a long-term learning partner,” said Chatterjee.

As a valued partner, Skillsoft provided the initiatives with cutting-edge tools and learning solutions, including:

  • Skill Benchmarks – Allowing employees to assess their skills before and after learning.
  • AI Coach (CAISYTM) – An AI simulator offering real-time, scenario-based guidance.
  • Boot camps & learning calendars – Structured learning journeys for continued engagement.
  • On-demand digital courses from Percipio – The courses covered AI, digital transformation, leadership, and functional skills.

One of the most impactful aspects of this collaboration was JSW’s ability to map Skillsoft’s learning resources directly to its capability-building framework, ensuring that employees received training aligned with their professional growth paths.

Key metrics of measuring success in DIGIVOLVE

According to Chatterjee, measuring the success of DIGIVOLVE was essential to ensure that the initiative continued to drive meaningful learning outcomes and align with JSW’s workforce development goals.

“One of the most critical success factors in any online learning journey is utilisation. So, tracking learner engagement and platform footfall allowed us to assess how actively employees interact with the system,” said Chatterjee, “A high utilisation rate is a strong indicator that employees recognise the value of the program and are committed to upskilling themselves.”

Beyond engagement, user satisfaction is another key metric. To evaluate this, JSW conducted a Net Promoter Score (NPS) survey, which provided insightful feedback on learner experience. The overwhelmingly positive response reinforced the program’s effectiveness and demonstrated its impact on employee development.

Another critical measure of success was certification completion rates. Each phase of the DIGIVOLVE journey was structured with targeted certifications, and tracking the number of employees successfully obtaining them helped gauge their commitment and progress.

A significant aspect of learning success, as noted by Chatterjee, was the application of feedback in the workplace. “While we did not have strict quantitative measures for this, qualitative feedback from employee surveys indicated that 60-70% of learners actively applied their acquired knowledge in their daily work. Although specific areas of application were not pinpointed, this insight validated the program’s role in fostering real-world skill adoption,” she added.

JSW’s impact in strengthening workforce capability

The DIGIVOLVE initiative, powered by Skillsoft, has had a profound impact on workforce development at JSW. According to the responses, 92% of employees reported applying their learning in real-world work scenarios, such as inventory management, predictive maintenance, and data analytics. The program received high NPS scores, which indicated strong learner satisfaction and effectiveness of the initiative. According to Chatterjee, DIGIVOLVE has led to increased digital literacy across the organisation, empowering employees to leverage new-age technologies effectively. This strongly aligns with JSW’s innovation and automation strategies, ensuring a future-ready workforce.

Chatterjee emphasised that the most significant business impact of Skillsoft’s courses was their alignment with the capability-building objectives. “ Their courses directly supported JSW’s innovation and automation strategies while equipping employees with future-ready skills,” she added.

The future of workforce learning at JSW

Building on the success of DIGIVOLVE, JSW is now exploring new ways to enhance its learning ecosystem:

  • Expanding business academies to provide function-specific training.
  • Shortening learning journeys for greater agility and impact.
  • Further integrating AI-driven learning for real-time feedback and personalised coaching.
  • Developing industry-specific courses to address emerging skills gaps.

“Our long-standing partnership with Skillsoft has been instrumental in keeping up with market trends and evolving skill requirements. As we continue to grow, innovate, and transform, our focus will remain on ensuring that every employee has access to learning opportunities that empower them to succeed,” said Chatterjee.
