The process of grooming employees starts early, with Get on Board, which is a self paced online orientation program for all new managers, new hires and internal promotions. Marriott also conducts a program called Meet to Reach, which is a forum that reaches out to all new associates in the first month of their joining. Collective experiences are discussed with the HR Leader of the unit and shared with the departmental heads.

The organization also stresses on the development of each employee and has numerous programs such as the Voyage Management Development Program which is a two yearly affair. Students passing out of premier hotel management institutes are hired into this programme, and trained at different Marriott properties; Talent Development and Pipeline Succession Planning, which can be described as a tool to determine recruiting needs, plan talent development and succession planning activities ensuring that Marriott has ongoing supply of talent. Marriott also provides an opportunity to all its Managers to gain international exposure by attending the various discipline conferences, seminars or workshops. Management Core Training Programs are a part of every unit’s management contract which outlines that every hotel must contribute $750 per manager per year towards management workshops called Marriott’s core training programs. These meet the needs of all managers and are categorized into levels to correlate with Marriott International's core competencies (Leadership, Managing Execution, Building Relationships, Generating Talent and Organizational Capacity, Learning and Applying Personal Expertise and Business Functional Results.
