COVID-19 second wave: How to navigate through it

COVID-19 second wave: How to navigate through it

When the pandemic brought the global economy to its knees, the looming question was — how does one even conduct business in these unprecedented circumstances? That is when new-age SaaS providers rose to the occasion to enable organizations to communicate remotely and carry out business safely in what is now being deemed as the new normal.

Work from home (WFH) has progressively been adopted since mid-2020 and, with no end to the pandemic in sight here in India, remote working has effectively become a mainstay for the global business ecosystem for the foreseeable future. The ease and seamlessness of connectivity offered by advanced communication platforms to organizations are the not only reasons why WFH policies are expected to stay in place. The other, more important, reason consists of the employee-centric benefits of the flexible, remotely enabled work culture.

Flexible work culture as key to working sustainably through the pandemic

To say that the viral outbreak has been devastating and has affected people’s lives adversely in capacities, both personal and professional, would be an understatement. Since March 2020, Covid-19 has continued to dictate every aspect of our lives. The imposition of lockdowns over the past year has further caused the general population’s mental health to take a hit.

In its wake, maintaining work-life balance has become a pressure task for professionals across the board. Children need more attention since they are also studying from home, older people in the family need more care because of the danger posed by the pandemic and, on top of everything, one needs to ensure their personal physical and mental well-being as well. This is why the flexibility of work and a home-office that offers an optimal work environment have emerged as non-negotiable requirements.

According to a recent Forrester Consulting study commissioned by LogMeIn, 83% of the respondents are more likely to stay at their current employer if they can continue to work in a flexible working environment. For 77% of them, flexibility in work is a crucial factor in selecting their optimal work environment. Against this backdrop, employee experience will continue to be the main theme of the business ecosystem in the post-pandemic age. And, to deliver on the expectations of the employees, businesses will continue to ramp up their tech infrastructure to support the flexible remote work paradigm.

Seamless collaboration between team members is necessary to avoid miscommunication and to streamline the workflow efficiently and transparently. This is the key to unlocking a flexible work environment where each employee has visibility over the workload that they can expect to deal with and can align their schedule accordingly. Organizations are actively leveraging advanced video-conferencing and webinar solutions offered by new-age SaaS brands to enable such seamlessness of communication. These tools can account for patchy network conditions and are equipped with background noise filtering capabilities to give the employees living in remote regions or with children or noisy pets peace of mind while working.

So far, remote workers have been able to work from home without suffering lapses in communication nor has the worker motivation been lost in — and despite — these stressful times. Remote working has truly acted as a bridge between the company and its employees and has acted as a sustainable model for all stakeholders. And we have modern business communication tools and platforms to thank for it.

With the second wave of the viral outbreak raging across India, the importance of advanced connectivity solutions has again come under the spotlight. Remote working tools are not merely a stand-in for the ongoing disruption. Businesses recognize their value as permanent solutions that can help them provide a safer and more efficient work environment to their employees even after the pandemic is relegated to history.
