#1 MakeMyTrip (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Ten years old with 600+ employees, MakeMyTrip has a large fan-following among its employees. The organization is characterized by an open work culture, empowerment of employees and fun at work.
Hiring is based on Internal Job Posting, Employee Referral Programs and tapping of talent through social networking websites. Employee referral awards are in the range of Rs10,000-Rs30,000 per case. Induction of newcomers is aided by a Buddy System where a buddy from the HR team is assigned to the new joiner to allay initial concerns. Inductees are provided with feedback on their performance with First 15-day Feedback, and kept connected with their mandate through Easy Digestible that offers them nuggets of information; Fasten your Seat Belt that informs them of processes; and through their KRAs. New employees are asked to dress up according to a theme for the town hall meets – popular themes in the past have been Back to school, Superheroes, MJ in the house and Hawaiian shack.
Internal communication is facilitated largely through the company intranet. Trippers Buzz includes business updates, market trends and a note from a leadership team member on a bi-monthly basis. A discussion forum on the intranet allows interaction on technology deployment, best practices, etc. Besides, all managers and above receive their Daily Coverage Report that updates them on the latest travel and business happenings around the world.
The company’s new initiative on collaboration is the Bumblebee Group that includes all online product heads with their respective tech leads. This fortnightly meeting starts with each product or tech unit head sharing the top two initiatives that they are currently undertaking and a couple of game changing ideas that, if implemented, can take their respective businesses to another level. This group has enabled increased knowledge sharing among units.
Recognition comes through Raving Fans where feedback from customers is posted every day on ‘All Trippers’, an email group. Peer to Peer Recognition acts as another forum where employees nominate their peers for qualities they value in them. A certificate is also sent to the nominee with a thank you note.
Employee development happens through Study Tours, where members of sales team go on study tours to get a first-hand experience of various destinations. Teach to Learn is a forum where managerial level staff share their experience of attending external programs with subordinates through structured sessions. Employees rate their employers high on providing them a workplace that allows open communication, entrepreneurial approach to their work, fun avenues to bond and celebrate achievements, familial feelings towards colleagues and many reasons to have a smile on their face.
