Six tips to navigate mental wellbeing at the workplace in the hybrid era

In today's dynamic work landscape nurturing employee well-being has become a hallmark of progressive companies. A survey by Glassdoor found that 89% of employees say that work-life balance is important to them when choosing a job. Priti Shetty, Chief People, and Culture Officer, WeWork India shares how organisations can champion the mental well-being of their employees in the modern-day workplace.

Enabling wellness breaks

Studies have consistently proven the invaluable role of taking breaks between work. It helps in alleviating stress and boosting overall performance. Forward-thinking organisations are increasingly recognising the importance of granting employees the opportunity to disconnect from work, reconnect with their loved ones, and recharge.

Implementing hybrid work policies

Embracing flexible work policies can have a substantial impact on the holistic mental well-being of employees. Recognising individual needs and offering choices such as flexible hours, hybrid working, etc. enhances productivity, performance, and well-being.

Routine employee well-being check-ins

It is important to establish a consistent and ongoing practice of checking in with employees. By doing so, a strong foundation for a mutually supportive relationship between employees and employers is fostered, promoting overall well-being in the workplace.

Employee assistance programs

An Employee assistance program (EAP) provides confidential and professional support to address various employee challenges which sometimes cannot be supported by direct managers or the support system at the workplace. They can offer invaluable and timely counselling on demand, regarding mental health, personal, familial, work-related, and financial issues.

Easy access to mental health experts

Offering employees the opportunity to reach out to mental health professionals yields substantial advantages. Facilitating proactive and convenient access to mental health care mitigates potential health risks.

Monitoring the impact of wellness initiatives

Wellness initiatives help cultivate a thriving, resilient workforce, ultimately optimising overall performance in a world where change is constant and uncertainty is a given. Mindfulness practices focus on holistic well-being, which includes financial, spiritual, physical, and mental wellness, and help build a workforce that is prepared to address ongoing and unpredictable challenges.
