Exploring the journey of fast-growing companies

What sets fast-growing companies apart from the rest? Varun Alagh, Co-founder and CEO of Mamaearth, Sukhleen Aneja, CEO of Good Glamm Group and Ajay Trehan, Founder and CEO at AuthBridge share their insights on this at People Matter’s Tech HR India 2022.
Exploring the journey of fast-growing companies

How is it that some organisations grow at a rate at which others find it difficult to keep up with the rate of change? How do fast-growing startups and unicorn companies manage to grow at a level that other companies fail to match?

Varun, Sukhleen, and Ajay discussed how the urge to create toxic-free opportunities—which they were unable to find in their youth—inspired them to begin their entrepreneurial journeys. They set off on their journey knowing that there would be many troughs and mountains to climb, a road where failure would be a constant companion. The three leaders decided that, despite everything, they would still be willing to do the trip again.

Entrepreneurs who set out on their path with the hopes of eventually feeling satisfied credit passion as a crucial factor in their success. Starting a business involves taking on the responsibility of their staff, which begins with five and eventually grows to 5,000. Their enthusiasm is what brought them together.

An entrepreneur’s journey involves a heart-rendering question that they should ask themselves every two years - is the organisation designed to achieve what we need to achieve from an experience perspective? This is because within the structure, there will be a team of creators who will always be there will be always doing something different, will always be hustling, will always be creating and then you have a team of people who will be running the rest of the organisation and generating revenues and timelines and so on. Hence in all this hustle and bustle, leaders tend to side-track from the original thought which actually ignited their passion.

Fundamentally, a young company will most probably thrive when people are making things happen every day and they are extremely hungry to break. A young company needs more resilience, a lot of emotional maturity and a lot of self-belief. Especially the times when you will be tested day and night and with no rewards. That's the kind of resilience the Gen-Z would have to aim for.

Embracing emotions as a leader

In the new world of work, a professional is bound to make mistakes because of the heavy bandwidth. So what can a leader do? Unlike the olden days of scolding and punishment, a leader has to understand the emotions of the team. As the team will expand in numbers, the dynamics of emotions will be as vast as the Indian Ocean. It is important for the leaders to actually help their team members to manage their emotions and overcome their fear of impacting without any profits.

It is also important for leaders to understand the power of having a normal conversation. This is quintessential for the company’s success as the team will feel more close to the passion the company is portraying. The constant experimentation would go hand in hand with success but at least the employees will understand the increase in the importance of passion and the emotions that come along with it.

The leadership triage was in unison when it came to a leader’s emotional journey and concluded that finding solutions in case of failure is a habit developed when leaders understand the insights they receive from the process they have undertaken.
