I almost used the word “trend” but I think you’ll agree with me after checking out the infographic from Betterteam below that this is more than a mere trend.
A full 70 percent of hiring managers say they’ve successfully used social to hire, and 89 percent of companies plan to use social media in their hiring efforts. That is a complete change to a new way of doing things - a revolution, if you will.
It comes at a great time - hiring has been more difficult than ever, it now takes record number of days to fill positions - and businesses report being worried about the cost of positions that go unfilled.
Social media appears to be helping, but the problem with revolutions is that many of the changes they bring are unforeseen, and perhaps even unwanted. And the move to social recruiting does not appear to be an exception to this. It turns out that social media is great at finding passive candidates - people who were not looking for a job. Passive candidates account for a large percentage of potential applicants - which explains why social has been so successful. But passive candidates don’t seem to perform quite as well as active ones.
