Trump at Davos - Protect US Business & Workers

Today’s Special Address by Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America’ at the World Economic Forum was the final address made by any world leader on the final day of the conference. Other world leaders who have addressed the forum include Emmanuel Macron, Angele Merkel, Theresa May, Justin Trudeau, Benjamin Netanyahu, Mauricio Macri and Narendra Modi.

As it was expected, the US president’s speech centered around an “American First” message and referenced his achievements after one year in office. Trump spoke about business-friendly tax reforms, America as economically resurgent and the place to do business. A perfect pitch from Trump to convince an already skeptical gathering of political and business leaders in Davos that he is good for business with the desire to attract investments to America and create jobs for the country. "The world is witnessing the resurgence of a strong and prosperous America… There has never been a better time to hire, to build, to invest and to grow in the United States," he said."America is open for business and we are competitive once again." On the event’s opening address, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked protectionism, according to Reuters he shared that trade barriers posed a danger to the world equal to climate change and extremist attacks. While he did not mention Mr. Trump, he noted that the “forces of protectionism are raising their heads against globalization. It feels like the opposite of globalization is happening.”

Business and jobs enter in a new phase of paradox where open trade and protectionism co-exist and job dynamics are at flux.
