DiversityInc's list of top 50 companies for diversity

DiversityInc released its list of Top 50 companies with leading practices in diversity for 2016. This year the list was led by Kaiser Permanente, an integrated managed care consortium based in Oakland. Second on the list was Novartis Pharmaceuticals followed by Ernst and Young, AT&T and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Kaiser Permanente has 66.6 percent representation of Blacks, Asians and Latinos in its total management, which is higher than top 10 companies and double that of top 50 averages. The company has 12 employee resource groups called “Multicultural Business Resource Groups (MBRGs) that have more than 3500 chapters. Novartis – which is second on the list has a diversity and inclusion strategy that places an emphasis on influencing the diversity of its patients, customers and suppliers and its recruitment, onboarding and talent development initiatives. The rate of promotions of women to management in the company is 37.8 percent higher the top 10 and 52.2 percent higher than the top 50. E&Y has 8 percent more women in senior leadership positions than the top 50 – which uses a variety of tools including a diversity and inclusion microsite, formal learning programs and experiential learning programs.

DiversityInc’s annual survey tracks the top companies in the U.S. covering hiring, retaining and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT and veterans.  The survey asked participating companies about 300 questions and is now in its 17th year and more than 1,800 companies participated in 2016.
