EPAM Systems, the US-based IT Services and consulting firm, is planning to expand its footprint and strengthen its engineering DNA in India with more hiring. With core centers in Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore, Gurgaon, and Chennai, the company continues to scale its operations.

“We are hiring across all levels, from junior engineers to senior directors, and our focus remains on maintaining the strength of our engineering DNA. While we hire over 3,000 production engineers annually, our priority is not just volume but ensuring the highest quality talent,” says Larry Solomon, Chief People Officer and SVP at EPAM Systems.

As EPAM celebrates a decade in India with over 10,000 employees, Solomon delves into the company’s remarkable journey in India, its people-first approach, and its commitment to integrating AI in operations.  He also spoke about workplace culture and future strategies for continued expansion.

While talking about EPAM’s Growth and Strategic Expansion in India, Solomon emphasizes that EPAM is investing heavily in India—not just in numbers but in quality.

Hybrid Work and the Future of Workforce Flexibility

The debate around remote work remains a hot topic globally, and Solomon acknowledges the importance of flexibility while balancing business needs.

“We should never forget that we are in the client service business. Striking a balance between client expectations and employee flexibility is key. The companies that successfully align these aspects will win the war for talent,” he explains.

While Solomon enjoys working from the office, he ensures employees have the autonomy to choose their work mode as long as productivity and efficiency remain uncompromised.

AI Integration in Operations and Talent Acquisition

EPAM is at the forefront of AI-driven transformation, leveraging technology to enhance productivity and efficiency across various functions, including talent acquisition. Solomon outlines how AI tools are being used to automate resume screening, job postings, interview scheduling, and onboarding processes.

“We have AI pilots running across the entire talent acquisition process. Automating screening and interview scheduling reduces turnaround time, giving us a competitive edge in hiring top talent,” he notes.

Beyond hiring, EPAM integrates AI into its service delivery, optimising software development cycles to enhance problem-solving, creativity, and operational efficiency.

Building a Culture of Learning and Innovation

At EPAM, continuous learning is ingrained in the company culture. With AI-driven upskilling programs, mentorship initiatives, and ambassador programs, employees are equipped with the latest technological advancements.

“Over 70% of our workforce is trained in AI techniques, and our AI productivity experts ensure that these tools are effectively utilized in real-world projects. We believe in a hands-on, team-centric learning environment that fosters creativity and problem-solving,” Solomon highlights.

Ensuring Diversity and Inclusion in Hiring

As a company committed to diversity, EPAM maintains rigorous hiring practices that evaluate both technical and soft skills.

“We prioritise candidates who demonstrate technical excellence along with adaptability, agility, and the ability to work in high-paced environments. Our hiring process includes multiple rounds of technical assessments and client-specific tests to ensure we onboard the best talent,” Solomon explains.

EPAM’s emphasis on mentorship and leadership development also contributes to a diverse and inclusive talent pipeline.

Rewarding Talent and Employee Engagement

Employee recognition plays a significant role in EPAM’s talent strategy. The company’s homegrown HR tools facilitate customised rewards, ensuring a balance between financial and non-financial benefits.

“We have a ‘Hero’s Portal’ where employees earn virtual badges as a recognition of their contributions. These are proudly displayed on their internal profiles, fostering motivation and engagement,” Solomon shares.

The Road Ahead: Scaling with Purpose

Looking to the future, Solomon envisions continued investment in India, reinforcing EPAM’s commitment to growth and innovation.

“We are over-investing in India, focusing on engineering excellence, AI-driven transformation, and leadership development. This is just the beginning—our journey here is only set to accelerate,” he asserts.

As EPAM marks a decade in India, its steadfast focus on quality talent, technological innovation, and a people-centric culture positions it as a key player in the evolving global technology landscape.

With an emphasis on employee empowerment, cutting-edge AI integration, and a balanced approach to work flexibility, the EPAM aims to continue its trajectory of rapid growth in the years to come.
