With customer service and enhanced experiences taking center stage post pandemic, and  with domestic tourism experiencing a significant surge, the hospitality industry in the country has seen a remarkable increase in job opportunities.

Data from global job site Indeed indicates that career opportunities in the hospitality sector are thriving, with a 60 per cent growth in job postings and a 20.10 per cent increase in job seeker interest (clicks) on the platform between March 2022 and March 2023.

Delhi NCR emerged as the top city for hospitality job opportunities, with a 20.37 per cent increase in job postings over the past year, followed by Mumbai and Bangalore. 

The post-pandemic era has led to a desire among people to step out of their homes, resulting in an uptick in leisure travel. With things gradually returning to normal, families are taking advantage of summer vacations and long weekends to plan trips. With increasing interstate travels, there continues to be a rising demand for job opportunities in the hospitality sector.

Saumitra Chand – Career Expert, Indeed India and Singapore, said the hospitality sector was perhaps one of the most affected industries since the wake of the pandemic. “The growth trajectory of this field has truly been impressive as it continues to grow at a rapid pace, with travel and tourism thriving again. During the second wave of the pandemic, change in jobs during the period of March 2020 to 2021 limboed at -13.80 per cent. However, from March 2022 to 2023, change in jobs has sprouted to a staggering 59.50 per cent. We remain optimistic about this growth, especially as local and domestic tourism continue to be attractive destinations,” he added.

The hospitality industry offers promising career opportunities for professionals, with hotel manager and travel consultant positions leading the pack in terms of yearly median salaries of Rs 435,000 and Rs 330,000, respectively. Resort manager, hospitality manager, and travel agent positions also offer attractive career paths for those interested in this sector, demonstrating the industry's potential for growth and success.
