Originality – that’s what defines a great mind. And Étienne Duval’s video cover letter is all about that. Essentially a cover letter is a boring piece of writeup hoping to attract the attention from the prospective employers – but sometimes we only come up with generic phrases to describe our work. It doesn’t work. However, Étienne, who is from France just thought differently and created a master cover letter in a video format. He has always dreamt of working for Bjarke Ingels Group, an architectural firm which is known for its innovative and ambitious designs and projects, and many of its buildings defy traditional architectural conventions and dimensions. In his own words to ArchDaily, Étienne believes ‘To catch a big fish you need a big hook!’ He went and created a rap video which is genuine, witty, and innovative. Did it catch BIG’s attention? Yes, it did. According to Étienne, the company is in talks with him.

He “wrote the lyrics and did the storyboard in two weeks, took two days on the music which include composing the beat, recording the different vocal tracks and mixing everything”, as told to ArchDaily. But Étienne won’t try and do the same thing for other architectural firms. Why? Because ‘the other firms are rather afraid by this kind of fun’.

Enjoy the video!
