Flipkart appoints Nitin Seth as Chief People Officer

From Fidelity to Flipkart – it’s a huge transition for Nitin Seth who joined the e-commerce portal as the Chief People Officer on Wednesday. In the capacity of the HR role, this is the first time Nitin Seth will be heading the HR department of any company. Nitin brings with him over two decades of experience in entrepreneurship, strategy, consulting, operations management and business process redesign. He will partner with the Flipkart leadership team to build an organization for the future that is versatile and adaptable.

He has also been an entrepreneur for two years (from April 2000 to April 2002). He set up ActiveKarma Ventures, a technology solutions company, whose primary focus was to leverage the Internet to offer innovative health and lifestyle solutions. He might not have the HR background, but his people managing skills in various organisations in different capacity probably make him the best person to head this position.

The IIM-Luknow alumnus (Majors in Finance and Operations), Nitin will report to Binny Bansal, CEO & Co-founder of Flipkart.  On his appointment, Nitin said, “I am really excited to be a part of an organization that is using technology to transform how a billion customers shop online and creating a massive impact in the country. A world-class company like Flipkart requires a world-class talent pool and I look forward to working with the leadership team to build on this and create a great organization that not only supports the business growth aspirations but will be a great place to work for employees and realize their full potential.”

Before assuming his new role with Flipkart, Nitin Seth was the Managing Director and Country Head for Fidelity International in India. Prior to Fidelity International, Nitin was with McKinsey, where he was the Director of McKC, McKinsey’s global knowledge center in India. He also holds an undergraduate degree in engineering (B.Tech) from the IIT-Delhi.

“It is our goal to make Flipkart the best place to work as we work towards creating a world-class organization known for its empowered teams and great tech talent. Nitin brings with him a unique mix of cross-sectoral experience, deep understanding of business, entrepreneurial DNA, and a long track record of building and nurturing winning teams. I am confident that Nitin will play a key role in enabling the team at Flipkart to fulfill our long-term mission of transforming commerce in India through technology,” said Binny Bansal, CEO of Flipkart.

Nitin chairs the NASSCOM Regional Council for Haryana, where he has championed development of the start-up ecosystem, creation of a forward-looking IT Policy for the state and infrastructure improvements in Gurgaon. He set up and chaired for over 3 years the NASSCOM forum for Global In-house Centers (GICs) for North India and has led the industry-wide initiative to develop the vision and strategic roadmap for GICs. He is now the Chairperson of the National GIC Council and is part of the NASSCOM Executive Council.
