Tata Communications forms panel to take up role of outgoing CEO

Tata Communications has constituted a three-member management committee to take up the role of Managing Director and CEO on account of the sudden resignation of Vinod Kumar. Kumar resigned from his position citing “personal reasons” this week and the plan to search for his replacement is in motion.

In a letter to employees, Renuka Ramnath, chairperson of Tata Communications, confirmed that Kumar had left the digital infrastructure arm of Tata Sons to pursue other professional opportunities.

Ramnath added that to ensure “business continues without interruption, the board has constituted a management committee comprising Anthony Bartolo, Chief Product Officer, Sumeet Walia, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer and Pratibha Advani, Chief Financial Officer. This management committee would be delegated with the powers of MD & CEO.”

She added that the firm has the right foundation and a clear roadmap for future growth, underpinned by a strong leadership team and talent within the organization to take the business forward. She also thanked the outgoing MD for creating the “vibrant” company.

Kumar, who is based in Singapore, had put in his papers for personal reasons and the board had accepted his resignation effective end of July 5. His tenure was till January 31, 2021. Kumar’s exit comes after having worked with Tata Communications for about 15 years wherein he joined the telecom division in 2004. It comes at a time when the telecom giant is upon the brink of incurring larger losses in the last quarter ending in March and is planning to refocus on helping enterprise customers.
