Governor of Southern State accused of sexual misconduct

A complaint has been filed against the Governor of Southern State by the victims of demanding sexual favors from women employees of the Raj Bhavan.
Governor of Southern State accused of sexual misconduct

A complaint against the Governor of a key South Indian State has been lodged by the employees of Raj Bhavan for committing sexual misconduct with the women staff. It is reported by the victims that the Governor was demanding sexual favors from the women employed at Raj Bhavan. The Centre is examining the issue, and the matter is under the scrutiny of the intelligence agencies. If the charges found are correct, the Governor will be asked to resign. 

Sexual harassment and misconducts at work have become a serious concern in our country. A survey by the Indian National Bar Association (INBA) conducted in 2017, found that of the 6,047 participants (both male and female), 38% said they’d faced harassment at the workplace. Of these, 69% did not complain about it.

Earlier, similar incidents have been reported where the Governors of the respective State had to resign owing to their involvement in those incidents. Last year in January, Governor of Meghalaya, V. Shanmugathan was asked to leave after more than 100 Raj Bhavan employees had petitioned the then President Pranab Mukherjee demanding the Governor’s recall, while accusing him of conducting sexual misconducts. In December 2009, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari had to resign as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh following severe charges of sexual perversion against him.

It is also learned that the Governor in question has not been summoned by the Centre as yet. The Centre is worried about the allegations as the state has been politically volatile
