National Engineering Industries Ltd (NEIL), one of the largest bearings manufacturer and leading exporters, launched ‘Back on Track’ program to provide opportunities for talented women to join workplace after career breaks.  

The program motivates women to transition back to work and provides them good opportunity to hone their skills and broaden their professional network. ‘Back to track’ involves mentorship, buddy, training and orientation programs supporting the transition process. It also offers practical guidance to women on work culture, coaching, and insights into balancing work-life. 

Shilpa Kabra, Vice President and Head, Human Resources, NEIL, comments, “At NEIL, we are committed to attracting, recruiting and developing diverse talent. We recognize that choosing to have a family is a very important stage in women’s life and also that women decide to take time away from work to focus on caring for their family. With Back on Track program, we aim to give women with the required skills and knowledge for re-entering the workplace.”

NEIL aims at recruiting the good number of women on career breaks to join various management roles over the next three years. Their main focus is tier II and tier III cities to identify incredible talent and promote diversity at the workplace. The initiative is a part of NEIL’s significant efforts to improve diversity and to ensure a strong and sustainable pipeline of future women leaders.

Recently on the occasion of International woman’s day, corporates in India launched several initiatives to reinforce their commitment to their women employees. PayPal introduced ‘Recharge’, a ‘back to work initiative’ for women. Program focused on equipping women technologists with skills to pursue their careers after a personal break. The recruitment startup, Belong launched its first automated diversity hiring tool in India called as ‘Belong for diversity’ to help companies to make the diversity hiring faster.  Also, Amazon launched ‘rekindle’ to help women resume their corporate career and Vodafone launched ‘reconnect programme’. 

Women workforce essentially forms 50% of the entire talent dwelling in the market; thus, making it critical for organizations to design policies and programs to attract, retain and cultivate them.
