Wipro and Alight Solutions deal closes at $1.6 Bn

Earlier in July, one of the biggest software exporters of India, Wipro Ltd. had signed a strategic partnership with US-based Alight Solutions’ India, with that deal being a part of a broader long-term strategic partnership between the two companies.

Now, Wipro Ltd has bagged its largest information technology (IT) outsourcing contract, valued at $1.6 Bn over 10 years from Alight Solutions LLC. Starting next year, Wipro is assured of at least $150 Mn in annual revenue.

"We are delighted to be chosen by Alight as their long-term strategic partner in their enterprise transformation journey to bring digital experiences and offerings to employees and employers globally,” said Wipro CEO Abidali Neemuchwala.

He further added, “This is a testimony to the capabilities we have built through our strategic investments in Wipro Digital, cloud platforms and cognitive platform Wipro Holmes.”

While Wipro will be focusing on automating Alight's operations,  Alight will be looking forward to leveraging Wipro's strengths in automation, machine learning and data analytics for speeding up its business.

The last time Wipro cracked a large deal was in 2014 when it signed a $1.1Bn outsourcing contract with Canadian logistics firm Atco. Among Indian IT services companies, it is only Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) that has in recent times won multiple billion-plus dollar deals. TCS has won three such multi-year mega-deals, which together bring in over $5.6 Bn in revenue.

With this deal, Wipro may get back on the growth path. Last year, Wipro had added $355.7 Mn in incremental revenue to end with 4.6 percent dollar revenue growth and had ended with $8.06Bn in revenue last year.
