PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi salary rises 13% to over $29 million

Her constant effort to make PepsiCo products healthy has helped the company earnings. And Indra Nooyi has been rewarded a 13% rise in her compensation. She received about $29.8 million, which is over Rs 195 crore compensation for 2016, according a public filing posted Friday.

Most of her salary hike came in the form of stock options, and in the filing, PepsiCo praised her performance last year saying, "Nooyi provided extraordinary strategic leadership in a volatile [economic] environment." Her pay hike came primarily in the form of stock awards.

Nooyi, 61, received $14.4 million in cash bonuses and $8.91 million in stock awards, according to a regulatory filing Friday. Her package also includes a $1.73 million salary. It’s the fourth consecutive pay raise for Nooyi, who has been CEO since 2006, according to Bloomberg.

PepsiCo Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston received $10.3 million for 2016, and Al Carey, head of the company’s North American market, got $10.1 million.

Last year, Nooyi was awarded an 18% increase in her salary, after she helped the company offset the effect of a stonger dollar by cutting costs of over $1 billion. Nooyi coped with slowing growth at PepsiCo last year by trimming expenses, raising prices and rolling out new products. North American demand helped fuel growth at its Frito-Lay snack division as the stronger US dollar eroded sales overseas.
