Guenter Butschek, CEO, Tata Motors is stepping down on 30 June 2021. The reason for moving out has been contributed to Butschek's desire to relocate to Germany at the end of the contract for personal intentions. However, he will continue as a consultant to the company till the end of this fiscal year.

“I would like to thank Guenter for leading Tata Motors successfully over the last five years and creating a strong foundation for the future. I look forward to his continued inputs as a consultant to the Company," said, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons.

"Leading Tata Motors over the last 5 years was an exciting experience. The business fundamentals are stronger, and we are well-positioned to leverage the opportunities in both commercial and passenger vehicles. I look forward to my continued association with the company as a consultant in the coming months,” Butschek said.

Butschek joined Tata Motors in 2016 where he was leading all operations of the company in India and in the international markets including South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and South Africa. Prior to Tata Motors, he was with Airbus Group where he served as Chief Operating Officer at Airbus and Member of the Group Executive Committee. Prior to Airbus, Butschek worked at Daimler AG for more than 25 years in international automotive management, leading functions like production, industrialization and procurement. The last role he held was President and Chief Executive Officer of Beijing Benz Automotive Co Ltd, a joint venture between Daimler AG and Beijing Automotive Industrial Holding in Beijing, China.

Earlier, in February, Marc Llistosella, the former Daimler veteran, was announced to take reins from Butschek. However, in March, the company said in a stock exchange filing that Llistosell wouldn’t be joining the company.

Meanwhile, Girish Wagh, president - commercial vehicles are being elevated as executive director to the Board of Tata Motors Ltd from July 1, 2021.
