The Delhi government is taking steps to draft a startup policy to create more jobs and encourage and the growth of entrepreneurship in the national capital.

As per a media report, the first draft of the policy was presented at a meeting organized by Delhi`s Industries Department.

Principal Secretary, Industries Mohanjeet Singh, during the meeting with the key stakeholders, stated that Delhi is currently home to a number of flourishing startups and the vision is to create a world-class startup ecosystem in Delhi through strategic investment and policy interventions.  The policy will also aim to leverage the robust innovation climate in the national capital.

The measure comes as the government is keen for the growth of entrepreneurship to create new jobs and fuel economic growth, as well as facilitate generation of innovative technology solutions with a social impact.

In a statement issued by the department, representatives from stakeholders such as GHV Accelerator, WeWork, FIIT-IIT Delhi, 91 Springboard, IIEST, Blume Ventures as well as from trade associations such as NASSCOM, FICCI, and CII participated in the meet.

"All in attendance provided their valuable inputs to be incorporated in the first draft of the startup policy. The key reasons for encouraging and fostering the growth of entrepreneurship in the national capital mentioned during the meet were to create new jobs and fuel economic growth, as well as to bring new competitive dynamics into the current economic system and to facilitate generation of innovative technology solutions with a social impact.”

Meanwhile, the state government is already working on setting up a technology incubation hub in Delhi, having already identified land for the project. The goal of setting up the center is to provide infrastructural support as well as a conducive environment for the startup ecosystem to grow.
