Samsung seeks Indian govt's help to defend its chairman
Samsung Electronics, South Korea's diversified conglomerate, has sought Indian government's help to procure crucial information that could bolster the company's case in which the Supreme Court has ordered its global head to appear in person before a local court. The company has sought information from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Directorate General of Foreign Trade regarding the case related to alleged non-payment of $1.4 million by its subsidiary to an Indian vendor. The Supreme Court had on March 31 ordered Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Kun-Hee, 72, to appear within six weeks before a Ghaziabad trial court in relation to the case filed by New Delhi-based JCE Consultancy.
