DXC Technology may recruit 10000 people with digital tech skills
Last year, in November, DXC Technology CEO John Michael Lawrie had raised concerns over inability to bring on employees quickly. He had shared that the lack of speedy hiring is costing the company nearly $100 Mn in revenue.
Now as the $20 Bn company looks to ramp up digital talent and build capabilities in emerging technologies, it plans to hire 10,000 people with digital technology skill in India.
Recently, the technology company lost out the slot of the third largest IT services company to Tata Consultancy Services, which is growing double digits. With the presence of such fierce competition in the market, DXC has to focus on staying innovative and upgrade its services. It is only with a set of capable and relevant talent that the US based tech company can enhance its services and gain back the market share.
“We saw delays in the ramp-up of a few large digital contracts. And while we continue to see strong market demand for our digital solutions, it is taking us longer than expected to bring on resources to support the digital growth," shared Lawrie.
Now as DXC focuses on gathering all the resources necessary for digital growth, it conducts a digital nativity test in order to get people with relevant skills. Further, out of the 10,000 employees it plans to hire, 1500 would be from the campuses.
Interestingly, DXC had also been downsizing its workforce ever since the merger in 2017 to achieve faster transition to digital. On one hand, DXC has cut jobs on the traditional tech services and on the other hand, it is looking to hire more people with digital skills.
This weekend, Zomato announced a similar practice of cutting jobs in back end teams and increasing hiring for digital and tech teams. These companies seem to be leveraging a combination of capability building and cost reduction. Soon more companies might be seen following the same trend.
Two similar announcements in a span of few days highlight that this trend has already started to take shape. It is about time the workforce acknowledges that automation will change the nature of work and create a demand for new skills. The job seekers must start investing in their own learning and development. Meanwhile, organizations and governments across the globe should also increase their focus on continuous learning and help the workforce sail through this storm of change.
