Tracking safety of employees

Mobile technologies such as GPS, bluetooth and NFC have opened up immense possibilities to gather data and update information real time. We believe real time location data can save lives, help in critical decision making and transform our daily lives. MTAP is a path breaking Geo-contextual business process platform uniquely combining GPS, Edge, Cell Tower triangulation, Wifi and Beacon data sources. The platform has been designed with focus on minimizing data consumption costs and scaling to millions of concurrent users. The first product from MTAP platform, Safetrax solves the problem of providing safe and secure transportation for IT/ITES employees.

Key differentiators: Employee safety empowerment solution - While others offer vehicle tracking, we are the first to offer employee empowerment to protect themselves. Employee movements can be tracked in real time with twitter like feeds on who has been picked up and dropped. Our SOS Control Center enables Admin teams to monitor real time movement of employees and cabs. When an employee sends an SOS alerts, it is immediately highlighted on the dashboard and Notifications or SMS alerts are sent to the admin and close family contacts. Statutory authorities and company management (HR & Admin Team) can go back in time to see the exact cab and employee movements for any investigation.

Source of Inspiration: The alarming rise in rape and sexual harassment of women in large metropolis cities caught our attention. Our goal is to provide a security solution to ensure that incidents like the infamous Nirbhaya rape never happen again. Safetrax ensures that any employee travelling at night, either by his/her own transport or company transport, is protected by his/her company and the respective authorities.

Spotlight Awards to us means: People Matters is a highly distinguished and reputed media firm in the HR domain. Winning the Spotlight award will be a great honor for us. As a start-up, it will validate our concept of providing safe commute for employees. We will continue to work hard to pioneer more innovations in this space. We believe this award will be a testimony to a very important area of HR in terms of employee safety risk and will help us launch our business successfully.

Biggest challenges & key learnings: Hiring great talent that thrives in a start-up culture, gels with the rest of the team and is passionate about the problem we are solving was quite a challenge. We found that hiring young graduates with the right attitude and trusting them with bigger responsibilities motivated them to deliver outstanding results. On the technical front, to provide a solution that can work on low-end devices without consuming a lot of battery and data was quite a challenge. Using an efficient algorithm that optimizes phone resources, we were able to devise a solution that can work on any smartphone.

Future of technology in HR: Smaller and bigger companies are embracing SMAC (Social Mobile Analytics Cloud) to develop highly engaging and efficient HR processes. A good portion of the workforce is now engaged in remote working from different offices or from home. We believe a lot of HR technologies will move to mobile in the near future. Employees can apply for leaves, pull up payslips, apply for travel, claim expense and do lot more from a simple mobile interface. It is our goal to work with all these technologies and be a ‘Dominant Player’ in providing employee safety.

Message for the HR community: India has the biggest potential (we have the largest teen population globally). If we can move up the value chain, HR should play a key role in providing a framework to ensure individual competencies are exploited in the interests of employees and the nation as a whole.
