In the Indian context, coaching is understood as lecturing and in most companies I engage with, I need to first educate them about the executive coaching intervention. A coach is a facilitator who lets you explore your solutions that you may otherwise be blind to. The basic philosophy is the long-term experience towards self-correction and self-generation of solutions. My way of coaching is about relooking at one’s practices and ensuring one is completely engaged in one’s life. And that is the fundamental shift that I try to achieve - to look into your practice and identify where you are blind; what blinds you from other possibilities and what else can come in the way. The design is about understanding the current narrative and offering a new current narrative which is focused at what the coachee wants and in the process offer and invite participation for self correction.
