When we look at how organizations are approaching partnerships, India is at a nascent stage. The current market is very transactional with less focus on long-term relationships.

 

While we have a long way to go in terms of the reliability and quality of products with respect to the Indian market, most products are still catering to high end buyers. We will see a lot more players of a wide variety in this space along with a trend of large companies exploring outsourcing options aimed at better delivery and cost saving.

In terms of the L&D landscape, there is a very clear shift from instructor-led learning to online and blended learning including mobile learning and gamification. Much learning content will be freely available over time, but products and services which help contextualize and personalize learning will pick up and will have a premium. 

Buyers in the current market are becoming smarter about sourcing all learning services. When we look at how organizations are approaching partnerships with service providers, India is still in a nascent process compared to the global processes. The current market is still very transactional with less focus on long-term relationships.

However, there is a lot more pressure on HR and in L&D to focus on talent management, and this pressure will continue. The L&D industry is still dominated by assessments—both providers and buyers, as compared to post assessment development. There are two things that internal L&D and sourcing teams are becoming better at. One is the screening of resources and partners - to search and look for the right people and companies to work with. The second is the buying process; most companies are looking for partners who can work with them for the long-term. In terms of implications on the supplier side, the need to have better suppliers is going to increase day-by-day and individual players or smaller providers will have the pressure to build their process and systems in order to partner with companies. Since buyers are exposed to world class quality, middle level suppliers will be under pressure to make their delivery sharper and better.
