A ranking would help in understanding where each school stands vis-à-vis others in terms of the key criteria of employability

 

Given NTPC’s belief in the philosophy of ‘grow your own timber’, the ‘executive trainee scheme’ was introduced in 1977 with the objective of raising a cadre of homegrown professionals. The guiding principles of the recruitment process include attracting the right talent, imparting the required knowledge and skills, providing equal opportunity to all and building the right mix of skill and competencies through induction of fresh blood.

When visiting a B-school, the factors which are most critical include the quality of student intake, quality of alumni, B-school ranking and school accreditation. Further, the existing relationships with the school, for example, conducting MDPs and other training programs also add weight in selecting a B-school. Other considerations are quality of the curriculum, flexibility of the students to relocate, admission standards of the school, quality of the faculty, industry interface and appropriate learning infrastructure.

A B-school ranking would help us in understanding where each school stands vis-à-vis others in terms of the key criteria of employability. However, rankings cannot be the sole criteria for selecting a B-School for placement. The quality of students is most important. Thus, a B-school ranking should take into consideration the student selection process, quality of students, the student-faculty ratio, and emphasis on investing in research, and global recognition of the B-school.
