Azim Premji’s younger son Tariq Premji joins board of Wipro Enterprises

Tariq Premji, the younger son of Wipro chairman Azim Premji, has been appointed to the board of Wipro Enterprises.

As per regulatory disclosures, Tariq’s appointment is effective from June 1. 

Tariq started off working in the family investment arm PremjiInvest and has also spent considerable time in the philanthropy initiatives of Premji.

 Wipro Enterprises is almost a $1.23 Bn privately held non-IT business that makes soaps such as Santoor and builds aerospace sub-systems for plane makers like Airbus and Boeing. It runs a strong consumer care and lighting business with operations in India, Southeast Asia and West Asia, owning brands such as Santoor, Chandrika and Yardley. 

As per latest financial disclosures, the firm made a profit of INR 950 Cr on revenue of INR 8,248 Cr in fiscal 201. The group’s infrastructure engineering business builds hydraulics equipment for construction and earthmoving companies and is among the largest independent hydraulic cylinder manufacturers in the world. 

Tariq Premji’s independent objective view will add to the board’s deliberations, a Wipro Enterprises statement said.
